BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Phoenix is supporting Black History month by sharing resources, blogs and articles on how to foster equality, diversity and inclusion in foster care.
October is Black History month...
The first Black History Month in the UK took place in 1987, the 150th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the Caribbean. It was arranged by Akyaaba Addai-Sebo, who came to the UK from Ghana as a refugee in 1984. He wanted to challenge racism and celebrate the history of black people.
October was chosen partly because it is traditionally a time when African leaders gather to talk about important issues, and partly because it was at the start of the school year.
